Mochi Selldown

Just two days ago, the price of mochi was already depressed to $1 per 100g. (Originally these costs $1.80 per 100g) After receiving word of $5 a bag mochi deals from my cousin at reunion dinner, I was back in Chinatown with my brother. The traffic this time was tremendous. And the barricades placed by the homeland police caused a lot of inconvenience. Luckily I remembered where the stores selling mochi were and went straight to them. When I arrived, the konnyakku was also going for the $5 a bag price so I bought a total of three bags of mochi and konnyakku!

Feels like the mochi and konnyakku stalls are having a war among themselves lets see who is the ultimate winner the consumers or the sellers? Next time i wont be so greedy to buy so much at one time!

Well, though you paid a higher price, but you got to choose the better konnyakku and mochi. At $5 per bag, the choice was limited and you're actually just choosing one or two flavours.

Thats strange to see things like Mochi and Konnyaku being the "in thing" during Chinese New Year as these 2 items are never featured in Malaysia as the "To buy' list.....

IS there a reason, why you all buy these 2 food stuff during Chinese New Year?

Mochi has been popular for about two years. Konnyakku become popular only this year. I am quite surprise as well. The other day I saw a store in Marina Square selling Taiwanese produce including their pineapple cakes and tea. It made me wonder if I was wise taking the trouble bringing back those Taiwanese produce last August when I was there. People say in Singapore, people are always looking to import (cheap) stuff from the region to sell and make money. In the past they did it with Thai clothing. Now you are seeing Taiwanese mochi and konnyakku.
